John Wick: Chapter 2 Keanu Reeves and His Dog

John Wick: Chapter 2  photo: The hitman's new dog is still by his side Rest easy,  John Wick  fans — the hitman’s new dog is still by his side. In a new image released Wednesday from the upcoming film,  John Wick: Chapter 2 , Wick, once again played by Keanu Reeves, is walking the Brooklyn Bridge with his new trusty sidekick, the pitbull he saved at the end of the first film. When Russian mobsters killed Wick’s beagle, Daisy, a gift from his now deceased wife, that triggered the events of the first film. Given Reeves’ dirty and disheveled look in the new photo, it looks like his new pooch is by his side for some  Chapter 2  action. The official synopsis for  John Wick: Chapter Two  is as follows : "Keanu Reeves returns in the sequel to the 2014 hit as legendary hitman John Wick who is forced to back out of retirement by a former associate plotting to seize control of a shadowy international assassins' guild. Bound by a blood oath to...

The 2016 BET Hip-Hop Awards: What to anticipate

Image
The taping of the BET Hip-Hop awards took place this past weekend (Sept. 17) at at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre a few miles north of Atlanta.  Snoop Dogg a.k.a the Dogg Father of the Rap game was the night's honoree. He was awarded the prestigious "I am Hip-Hop award," which was appropriately presented by Kendrick Lamar. “To all the young rappers in the game, a lot of people don’t understand you. Y’all are misunderstood,” said Snoop with Kendrick Lamar standing beside him. “I was misunderstood at the beginning. So you got to keep pushing, be original and diverse. Hip-hop was created many years ago and it’s taken people so many places. You have to be who you are.” The event was star-studded as usual, with an attention demanding roster of artists featuring  T.I., Jeezy, Gucci Mane, Lil Uzi, Desiigner, Fat Joe, Remy Ma, and of course, DJ "I got the Keys" Khaled as the evening's host. The press is referring to the show as...

Black-ish will 'dig a little deeper' in season 3

Image
Creator Kenya Barris talks 'a very special episode' — and how it's inspired the writers Kenya Barris, the creator of ABC’s  black-ish , got the closest he promises he will ever come to “a very special episode” with last season’s half hour devoted to the uptick in gun violence in America. Titled “Hope,” the primarily single-scene episode featured a conversation between husband and wife Dre (Anthony Anderson) and Dr. Rainbow Johnson (Tracee Ellis Ross), their four children, and Dre’s parents (Laurence Fishburne and Jennifer Lewis) about the police brutality against black men and the resulting social unrest that has been playing out across the country. The episode stemmed, as most  black-ish  episodes do, from Barris’ home life. In the case of “Hope,” it was pulled from a conversation Barris had with his young son, who asked him why everyone is so angry. “The night it aired, I knew we tapped into something,” says Anderson in his trailer during a short break from...

Emmy Academy confuses Cuba Gooding Jr. and Terrence Howard

Image
Though this year’s crop of Emmy nominees includes 21 actors of color (marking the award show’s most racially inclusive array of stars to date), the ceremony itself got off to a dismaying start by misidentifying actor (and Emmy presenter) Terrence Howard as Cuba Gooding Jr. In a tweet that has since been deleted, the Television Academy stated that Gooding, who’s nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series tonight for his turn in FX’s “American Crime Story: The People V. O.J. Simpson,” was arriving at the red carpet when it was in fact, Howard, the star of “ Empire .” The Television Academy quickly fixed the mistake and provided correct identification, but it has not yet addressed the blunder. This is just the latest instance of actors of color being misidentified by the media. Last year, the Golden Globes’ official Twitter account misidentified “Superstore” actress America Ferrera as “Jane the Virgin” star Gina Rodriguez, ultimately issuing an apology for mixi...
