The Christmas Story: ‘Black Nativity’starring TONY TERRY opens at Crossroads Dec.9th
The Nativity story can be interpreted many ways. In one sense, it can be seen as the story of a man and his family making a long journey to return to the land of his ancestors. For members of the cast and crew of “Black Nativity,” which opens Dec. 9 at Crossroads Theatre Co., this production is another type of homecoming. The New Brunswick theater first presented the show — a musical retelling of the birth of Jesus with an all-black cast — in December 1985. The cast of that production of “Black Nativity” featured vocalist Lee Truesdale and a relatively unknown singer named Tony Terry. Among the appreciative audience members was Obediah Wright. Fast-forward to 2016. Truesdale is now directing “Black Nativity,” with Wright on board as the choreographer.
