Floyd Mayweather  squares off against  Conor McGregor  Saturday night in Las Vegas in the much-hyped fight that is one-part boxing and four parts spectacle.  Most boxing experts gave McGregor little chance, but the one sure bet Saturday night  was  both fighters pocketed massive paychecks for their at-most 36 minutes of work in the ring. McGregor cleared at least $100 million with Mayweather in line for more than $200 million, pushing his career earnings close to $1 billion. Floyd Mayweather paid $750,000 to get out of his contract in 2006, and it made him hundreds of millions Floyd Mayweather Jr.  stoods to make well over $100 million  in his fight with Manny Pacquiao. To put that in perspective, Mayweather was  the highest-paid athlete in the world in 2014  at $105 million. He's going to surpass that in a single night. The reason Mayweather is far and away the highest-paid athlete on earth goes back to a decision he made in 2006. For the first 10 years of his professional career Mayweather was a part of Bob Arum's stable of fighters at Top Rank promotion company. During that time he became the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world. But in April of 2006 Mayweather turned down the highest purse of his career,  $8 million to fight Antonio Margarito , and exercised a provision in his contract that let him become a free agent if he paid Top Rank $750,000. A class-action lawsuit was filed Tuesday on behalf of two Las  Vegas residents seeking more than $5 million from Manny Pacquiao, his manager and his promoters for fraudulently concealing his injury before his fight against Floyd Mayweather.      The suit alleges that Pacquiao and his manager Michael Koncz, his promotional company Top Rank, its chairman Bob Arum and its president Todd duBoef, admitted that they knew of his shoulder injury after the fight, but failed to disclose it to the Nevada Athletic Commission as required by law. They also kept it a secret from fans who bought tickets to the fight, purchased the fight on pay-per-view and bet on the fight. The Fight of the Century will not even be the Fight of the Year. Neither Floyd Mayweather nor Manny Pacquiao came close to the knockout which the Money Man desired so desperately and the PacMan ended up needing so badly. The bright start ebbed into a game of cat and mouse, Mayweather dodging and countering, Pacquiao charging and probably missing too often. The richest fight of all time will be remembered for the mega-millions, the gigantic hype, the hordes on the Strip, the most manic media coverage of all time… and a physical chess match between two old masters. Mayweather proved himself once again the grand master of the noble art of self defence. It was enough to settle the argument as to which of them is the greatest boxer of his generation.
