Obama Begins Africa Tour in Senegal

Mr. Obama’s main purpose in Senegal is seen as highlighting Senegal’s democratic culture. Arriving in Senegal on Wednesday night, President Obama kicked off a weeklong trip to Africa. Ari filed this report from Dakar: "The streets here in Dakar are full of posters proclaiming, ' Welcome Obama. '" They show the U.S. president next to Senegal's recently elected president, Macky Sall. The posters almost make it look like the two are running mates in a campaign. "The images are plastered on walls, trees, fences, even statues. President Obama's visit here provides credibility to the Senegalese government.  NPR's Ari Shapiro, who is traveling with the president, will keep us up to date on the president's  visit. Blues legend Bobby "Blue" Bland has died.

 GRENADA, Miss. (AP) — Singer Bobby "Blue" Bland, who blended Southern blues and soul in songs such as "Turn on Your Love Light" and "Further on up the Road," has died. He was 83.Bland's son Rodd said his father died about 5:30 p.m. Sunday at his Memphis home surrounded by relatives.  His son said he died from complications from an ongoing illness. Since 2008, Bland had been using a wheelchair to limit his walking but would stand up at his performances, as he did in November when he sang at his induction into the Memphis Music Hall of Fame. He was inducted in 1992 into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, which hailed him as "second in stature only to B.B. King as a product of Memphis' Beale Street blues scene." He is a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Blues Hall of Fame. If you weren't there, you missed the 8th wonder of the world, Jokes & Jazz, June 19th, 2013.  I wish I could express the feelings I am experiencing right now. You will NEVER know the joy of an exceptional performance by so many artists. They BROUGHT it tonight.  Jokes & Jazz was off the chain!  Thanks to EVERYONE for making this phenomenal event happen tonight. My new comic  Viet Huynh  brought his kute little asian tooch to the stage and rocked it!  Then followed by  Comedienne Relly Hodges MzW allst  who was not to be outdone,did her usual bringing down the house.  Ouch to the band members,  Isaac Harris III ,  Jared Lanham ,  Jim Sadler  who were brought together for the first time and were in sync better than "N Sync". You guys rocked! Now  Gary Harris  has been with me for several months and he never ceases to amaze me with his dynamic performance on that SAX. Truly amazing!
