Chicago, Illinois August 1, 2012 -
International acoustic jazz artist, and recently ordained Evangelist, Sheila Raye Charles daughter of legendary Ray Charles, is the guest of honor at the National Conference of State Legislatures in Chicago, Illinois beginning August 6, 2012.

Charles says she is "humbled" to convey an
a cappella rendition of her father's internationally acclaimed refrain; "Georgia On My Mind" at the opening ceremony.

In addition, Charles will bestow entertainment for the national conference's luncheon accompanied by her live orchestra.

Sheila Raye Charles has spent the past eight years traveling the world, delivering her message of hope,  recovery and redemption to church groups, recovery and addiction organizations, as well as, state and federal prison inmates following her own twenty year drug addiction and recovery which was accompanied by a term in a federal penitentiary. After her recovery, acclaimed actor, Louis Gossett Jr. chronicled a documentary that depicted her revelation and that of her siblings coming together, after the death of their famous father.

The Charles family (siblings), are actively engaged in an embattled lawsuit, initiated by the Ray Charles Foundation for what seems, a convoluted attempt to keep the children from gaining any rights to their father's estate which includes music,  paraphernalia and other rights. The children of the internationally famed artist say that they are "exercising their rights under the law".

Today, Sheila Raye continues to honor her father's memory by emulating his style in a musical medley tribute during special occasions, world-wide.  Charles and her 11 siblings have planned a never-before all embracing "birthday tribute" slated for September 10, 2012 at the Buckhead Theater in Atlanta, GA entitled, "Remembering Our father" Ray.

Sheila Raye Charles and Governor of the state of Georgia
Earlier this year, Sheila Raye and her family were honored as new residents to the state by the Georgia General Assembly on the 33rd anniversary of her father being honored and welcomed whereas; his song "Georgia" was adopted as the official state song.

As well, Sheila Raye was welcomed by the Governor of the state; in his private chambers.

Another historic milestone this year  for Sheila Raye came when, she had the pleasure of presenting a rendition of her father's song at a star studded, 80th birthday celebration event for Ambassador Andrew Young; where Oprah Winfrey was in attendance among other elected dignitaries.

The National Conference of State Legislatures, a privately funded organization, is a bipartisan organization that serves the legislators and staffs of the nation's 50 states, its commonwealths and territories.  NCSL provides research, technical assistance and opportunities for policymakers to exchange ideas on the most pressing state issues.  NCSL is an effective and respected advocate for the interests of state governments before Congress and federal agencies.  The leadership of NCSL is composed of legislators and staff from across the country.  The NCSL Executive Committee provides overall direction on operations of the Conference.
