Laurence Fishburne added to ‘Ride Along’, his 3rd film with Ice Cube

Atlanta, GA- Laurence Fishburne has joined the cast of Universal Pictures’ Ride Along, action comedy directed by Tim Story. He joins a cast that also includes Kevin Hart, Ice Cube, John Leguizamo, Tika Sumpter, Bryan Callen, Jay Pharoah, Jeff Rose and Bruce McGill.
The film was in hiatus at New Line Party while deciding on the actors for each role. Now, Universal Pictures has acquired the rights. The comedy’s screenplay has been all over the place. Early drafts came from writers Greg Coolidge , Jason Mantzoukas and Wedding Crashers and 2013 comedy We’re the Millers team Steve Faber and Bob Fisher. The newest draft comes from writing team Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi (Clash of the Titans).

Here’s the synopsis on the film.

Kevin Hart and Ice Cube leads the lineup in Ride Along, the new film from the director and the producer of the blockbuster comedy Think Like a Man.
A rogue cop (Ice Cube) is also an overprotective brother to his sister. When she reveals her engagement to a second grade teacher (Kevin Hart), the cop sets up plans to test the relationship. If the teacher wants to keep the woman of his dreams he must overcome a nightmare ride-along experience with his future brother-in-law.

Now, in order to prove that he deserves his future bride, he must survive the most insane 24 hours of his life.
For the past two years, high-school security guard Ben (Hart) has been trying to show decorated APD detective James (Cube) that he’s more than just a video-game junkie who’s unworthy of James’ sister, Angela (Tika Sumpter). When Ben finally gets accepted into the academy, he thinks he’s earned the seasoned policeman’s respect and asks for his blessing to marry Angela.

Knowing that a ride along will demonstrate if Ben has what it takes to take care of his sister, James invites him on a shift designed to scare the hell out of the trainee. But when the wild night leads them to the most notorious criminal in the city, James will find that his new partner’s rapid-fire mouth is just as dangerous as the bullets speeding at it.
Production has already started in Atlanta, Georgia and is set to wrap within the next two weeks.

For Fishburne, who was last seen in ‘Contagion’ with Matt Damon, this is his third film that has him working with Ice Cube. They appeared in John Singleton‘s 1991 film Boyz n the Hood, as well as his 1995 film Higher Learning.
He will next be seen playing Special Agent Jack Crawford opposite Mads Mikkelsen in the new TV series Hannibal.

He’s also set to play Perry White in the new Superman film, Man of Steel.
Tim Story is directing the action comedy, which also stars John Leguizamo, Tika Sumpter, Bryan Callen, Jeff Rose and Jay Pharoah.

'Passengers' Cast Chris Pratt & Jennifer Lawrence Team Up for New Movie

Georgia’s film industry is growing one movie at a time. The next major motion picture to film in the Atlanta area is Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt’s new movie ‘Passengers’.
