Oscar Parties Rundown: 2013

A run-down of all the hottest parties, brunches, lunches and soirees surrounding the 85th Academy Awards.

As the Oscars approach, we have the complete rundown of glitzy galas leading up to and capping off the Feb. 24 awards show.

Among the hosts are Vanity Fair, Essence, Elton John and Madonna. More events to be confirmed.

Thursday, Feb. 21

Essence Magazine’s Black Women in Hollywood Luncheon
This luncheon takes place at the Beverly Hills Hotel. The honorees are Oprah Winfrey; actresses Alfre Woodard, Gabrielle Union, Naomie Harris and Quvenzhane Wallis; and producer Mara Brock-Akil.


WME and Sonos Lunch
WME Entertainment and music system company Sonos will host a lunch for music composers at Eveleigh restaurant on the Sunset Strip.

Larry Gagosian Art Show and Dinner
Larry Gagosian hosts his longtime Oscar week public opening at the Gagosian Gallery in Beverly Hills with a show of paintings from Richard Prince’s Cowboy series. There will be a private dinner later at Mr. Chow’s.

Ron Meyer's Dinner
Universal Studios president and COO Ron Meyer is giving a dinner honoring Vanity Fair editor Graydon Carter at a private house.

Global Green Pre-Oscar Party
Singer Willie Nelson, along with sons Lukas and Micah, will perform at the 10th annual Global Green pre-Oscar party at the Avalon in Hollywood. General tickets are $125 with VIP dinner tix starting at $1,250. Proceeds will help Global Green build green homes and schools in communities hit hard by Hurricane Sandy.

Oscar Wilde: Honoring the Irish in Film Event
The U.S.-Ireland Alliance will shine a spotlight on makeup artist Michele Burke, actor Colin Farrell and Lionsgate vice chairman Michael Burns at its annual event at J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot production company office in Santa Monica.

ICM Party
ICM partners will hold a fete at a private home.

Vanity Fair and Fiat's Cocktail Party
 Vanity Fair and Fiat, along with composer Hans Zimmer and director Ron Howard, are hosting an invitation-only cocktail party at Cecconi’s restaurant in West Hollywood. It benefits the United Nation’s International Labor Organization and its Green Jobs Program.









Friday, Feb. 22
Women in Film's Pre-Oscar Cocktail Party
Women in Film, with Octavia Spencer and WIF president Cathy Schulman as hosts, gives its sixth annual pre-Oscar cocktail party at Fig & Olive restaurant, sponsored by Perrier-Jouët Champagne and M∙A∙C Cosmetics. Among the expected guests are Megan Ellison, Stacey Sher, Colleen Atwood and Jacki Weaver.

The "Great British Film Reception"
Glasses will be raised to toast this year's nominees from the U.K. at a reception hosted by British Consul-General Dame Barbara Hay at her residence in Hancock Park in partnershp with the British Film Commission and VisitBritain.

Universal Nominees Party
Expect the Les Miserables crew at Universal’s intimate shindig for its nominees at Melrose Avenue’s Lucques restaurant.

Warner Bros. Party
Soho House in West Hollywood is where Warner Bros. will fete the filmmakers behind such films as Argo and The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.

WME, UTA, and CAA Agency Parties
Friday is agency party night with WME Entertainment gathering at the home of its co-CEO Ari Emanuel. UTA’s partying at its chairman Jim Berkus’ house, and CAA moving its bash to Beverly Hills’ Greystone Mansion. (Its usual spot, Bryan Lourd’s house, is under renovation.)

UCLA Costume Design Panel
UCLA's School of Theater, Film and Television will present their 2nd Annual Sketch to Screen Costume Design panel. The panel will host the costume designers behind the Oscar-nominated Silver Linings Playbook, Les Miserables, Moonrise Kingdom, Argo, Anna Karenina and Lincoln.

QVC Red Carpet Style Party
QVC president/CEO Mike George and CEO Claire Watts host this cocktail party held at Four Seasons Hotel.

How to Survive a Plague Party
Sponsored by the Elton John AIDS Foundation and LoveGold, the party will celebrate the Oscar-nominated documentary How to Survive a Plague at Chateau Marmont.

Shorts Awards 2013
Presented by ShortsHD, the night held at the Paley Center for Media will honor the Oscar-nominated live action, animated and documentary shorts. Filmmakers Sean Fine, Andrea Nix-Fine and Cynthia Wade are among those attending.

The Publicists of the International Cinematographers Guild (IATSE Local 600) 50th Annual Awards Luncheon
The publicists' 50th annual awards luncheon begins at 11 a.m. at the Beverly Hilton. Kirk Douglas will receive lifetime achievement honors.

Saturday, Feb. 23
Independent Spirit Awards
Andy Samberg will host the Independent Spirit Awards, taking place on the beach in Santa Monica.


Society of Composers & Lyricists Party: The group will throw an afternoon reception at a private home in Beverly Hills.

Motion Picture & Television Fund's The Night Before Party
The event takes place at the Beverly Hills Hotel. Among the sponsors this year is The Hollywood Reporter.

Sony Classics Nominees Dinner
The London Hotel will be the setting for a nominees dinner given by Sony Classics, distributor of Amour, The Gatekeepers and Searching for Sugar Man.

Prism Gallery Opening
Celebrity photographer Mario Testino’s shots will be on view at an opening at the Prism Gallery on the Sunset Strip. There’s an afterparty at a private home in Beverly Hills.

Barry Diller's Luncheon
Barry Diller is throwing a luncheon for Vanity Fair’s Carter at a private home.

Charles Finch and Chanel Pre-Oscar Dinner
The event again is at Madeo.

The Weinstein Co.'s Party
With Django Unchained and Silver Linings Playbook in the best picture race, the distributor will welcome a VIP crowd at Soho House.

Chateau Marmont Party
WME’s Warren Zavala, Mandate Pictures president Nathan Kahane and Anonymous Content’s Michael Sugar and Doug Wald are hosting a party at the famed luxe hotel sponsored by Grey Goose Vodka.

Focus Features Party
Also at Chateau, the distributor of Anna Karenina will raise a glass to its nominees.

Sunday, Feb. 24: Oscar Night

The Governors Ball
The longstanding Governors Ball is on the top floor of the Hollywood & Highland shopping center complex, within walking distance of the Dolby Theatre. Wolfgang Puck Catering will provide the eats.

The Vanity Fair Party
The magazine's famed glittery affair, the big kahuna of the weekend and now in its 20th year, again will take over the Sunset Tower hotel.




The Elton John AIDS Foundation Viewing Party
The charity unspools its annual benefit again this year at the Pacific Design Center in West Hollywood.

Madonna's Bash
The singer grabs the late-night partygoers at her private bash at manager Guy Oseary’s house.

Night of 100 Stars Dinner & Viewing Party
The annual dinner/viewing party is at the Beverly Hills Hotel.

Twentieth Century Fox and Fox Searchlight Party
Twentieth Century Fox and Fox Searchlight are having a post-Oscars party for their nominees at Lure in Hollywood.

AIDS Project LA's 'The Envelope Please'
The group's "The Envelope Please" festivities will take place at The Abbey in West Hollywood.

InStyle Oscar Party
InStyle has its annual Oscar party at BOA Steakhouse. The mag says it wants this to be a “fun and relaxed” affair.

Children Uniting Nations Viewing Dinner and After Party
The 14th annual event will raise funds for at risk and foster youth and will be held at the Warner Beverly Hills estate. There will be performances by Dennis Quaid & the Sharks and Miki Howard, and the night will be MC'd by Miguel A. Nunez Jr.
