Woman Quits Her Job With an "Interpretive Dance" to a Kanye West Song; Boss responds

Some people quit their job with a mic drop. This woman left with a full-on dance party.

  • Marina Schifrin made her video in office at 4.30am to Kanye West's Gone.

  • Since posting it online last week she has had more than 7 million views
  • Her old boss should be proud.
  • 25-year-old writer Marina Shifrin works worked for Next Media Animation—the folks who make funny viral-y videos out of our silly little news happenings—quitting her job in a highly public fashion while dancing to Kanye West. The video went viral, as videos and left viewers with the impression that NMA is a sweatshop where traffic is valued over the art as she explains, "For almost two years I've sacrificed my relationships, time and energy for this job."

Though she claims that the company is "awesome," she continues, "My boss only cares about quantity and how many views each video gets...I believe it's more important to focus on the quality of the content."
Also, according to The Huffington Post, she didn't get a lunch break.

Ex-boss made his own video to make an announcement of his own

When video editor Marina Schifrin decided she wanted to leave Taiwanese animator Next Media Animation, she probably didn't expect that her boss would fire back with his own video.

Her boss also had some stern words for her: ' I wish marina would have applied more creativity to her daily work as she did in the video.' There is an image now of a sweat shop, we are not. Marina made USD$42k per year. She had a 40 hr work week, 5 days a week. There is no expectation of OT on our behalf, you finish your shift and leave. In our office most folks leave when their shift is up as you work on news flow. Also we ask journalists to work one month per year on the midnight shift as we just need to cover the shift. We pay a differential of 30% for these hours, which I know are hard hours to work.

Look, we do news animations. We are not investigative reporters.
In a tongue-in-cheek video response uploaded to YouTube, employees at the Taiwanese animation company performed their own 'interpretive dance' to Kanye West's 'Gone.'

The clip even shows off the company's rooftop pool in an attempt to entice potential employees into applying for Marina's recently vacated position. But do they employees have time to enjoy it?

PS: We are hiring! Email us at info@nma.com.tw to find out more.
