Federal Government plans one million houses for Diaspora Nigerians

The Federal Government plans to build about one million housing units for Nigerians in the Diaspora, the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, NCF Investment Incorporation, Chief Temitope Ajayi, has said., Ajayi, who is also the Ambassador of Goodwill for Arkansas and Maryland State and Honorable Chair, Global Connections for Women Foundation, stated in an interview with our correspondent on Friday that the units were part of the housing for all project of the Federal Government.

She said the Diaspora housing project would be financed through a mortgage arrangement, adding that the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria and the First Bank of Nigeria would play leading roles in financing the housing scheme.

She stated the mortgages for the acquisition of the houses would have a 15-year tenor.

According to her, Nigerians abroad will remit trillions of dollars for the project, which she said would be sited in Abuja, Lagos, Port Harcourt and Kano.

Ajayi said the project had been approved by the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development.

She said Nigerians in the Diaspora were grateful to the Federal Government for incorporating them into its housing scheme.

Ajayi said, “It is history in the making. The housing agenda of the current administration has been quite laudable. The Federal Government has been championing housing for all Nigerians. Now, the good thing is that they have extended it to the Diaspora.

“In America, we say Obamacare; now in Nigeria, we will be saying Godluck Jonathan housing care for the Diaspora. That is huge.

“As of now, the Federal Housing Authority has approved thd Goodluck Housing for the Diaspora scheme. The developers are working on it. We are happy with 
the housing project. We are grateful to Jonathan for making our dream come through.

“We were talking of Diaspora Nigerians remitting $52bn to the country through funds transfer yearly; now, we are talking of those in the Diaspora remitting trillions of naira through the Goodluck Housing for the Diasporas.”
