After four years of fundraising and planning, construction on the Jimi Hendrix Park in Seattle is set to begin in April.

The Jimi Hendrix Park Foundation and the city of Seattle announced that development company ERRG, Inc. had won the bid to start work on the two-and-a-half acre stretch of land dedicated to the legendary guitarist in the city's Central District adjacent to the Northwest African American Museum, with a completion date penciled in for the fall.

While the Park Foundation broke ground on the location last August, executing the Murase Associates' landscape design for the park stalled, but with ERRG now in place, work on phase one of the project – dubbed "Little Wing," for the Axis: Bold as Love classic – will finally kick off next month, Billboard reports. career" that will be presented along a path loosely shaped like the neck of a guitar.

"The Jimi Hendrix Park is the culmination of years of hard work, collaboration, creative input, and generosity invested in something we all believed in and constructed to commemorate an amazing human being," Janie Hendrix, Jimi's sister and the founder and director of the Jimi Hendrix Park Foundation, said in a statement. "It is our hope that for generations, it will exist as more than an attraction or point of interest, but a place of homage to one of Seattle's own. The landscaping, the artistic design, and the ambience all mimic the vibe of the persona of Jimi, whom this park honors."

Fundraising is still underway for the second phase of the Jimi Hendrix Park. For more information or to contribute, visit the Foundation's official website.
