Time magazine unveiled its 12th annual "Time 100 Most Influential People in the World" issue on Thursday, which once again features figures ranging from politicians to pop culture icons, from North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un to Kanye West.
Boundary Breaker
Kanye West would be the first person to tell you he belongs on this list. The dude doesn’t believe in false modesty, and he shouldn’t. Kanye’s belief in himself and his incredible tenacity—he performed his first single with his jaw wired shut—got him to where he is today. And he fought for his place in the cultural pantheon with a purpose. In his debut album, over a decade ago, Kanye issued what amounted to a social critique and a call to arms (with a beat): “We rappers is role models: we rap, we don’t think.” But Kanye does think. Constantly. About everything. And he wants everybody else to do the same: to engage, question, push boundaries. Now that he’s a pop-culture juggernaut, he has the platform to achieve just that. He’s not afraid of being judged or ridiculed in the process. Kanye’s been playing the long game all along, and we’re only just beginning to see why.

The list takes into account those who have inspired others, positively or negatively, and each person on the list has a profile written about him or her by another notable figure.
Entrepreneur and Tesla Motors CEO Elon Musk profiles West, Oprah Winfrey writes about producer and director Lee Daniels, presidential hopeful Rand Paul writes about billionaire brothers Charles and David Koch, basketball Hall of Famer Kareem Abdul Jabbar does the honors for NBA commissioner Adam Silver, and legendary actor Jack Nicholson profiles Lorne Michaels.

President Barack Obama is on the list for the 10th time, the most of any of the honorees, followed by presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton making her eighth appearance.
The list features 40 women, including education activist Malala Yousafzai, 17, who is the youngest person on the list for the third straight year.
The oldest of this year's honorees is 88-year-old Tunisian president Beji Caid Essebsi.
“A-list” actors are exceptionally successful, their notoriety extends beyond the silver screen, and their name guarantees a box office hit. Some “A-list” actors include: Will Smith, Brad Pitt, Leonardo DiCaprio, Angelina Jolie, Meryl Streep, and Johnny Depp. The “A-list” actors are usually made up of male actors as with more high earning positions. “B-list” actors are usually television actors or less successful movie stars. Some “B-list” actors include: Nicholas Cage, Katherine Heigl, David Morse, Samantha Morton, and Pierce Brosnan. “B-list” actors usually never headline a film by themselves; this means the supporting actors are usually fairly notable too. “C-list” actor is a character actor that’s known by face and not by name.
