Variety’s Power of Women: New York will honor Glenn Close, Lena Dunham, Whoopi Goldberg, Rachel Weisz and Kim Kardashian West as Inspiration Impact Honorees at an April 24th luncheon. The event at Manhattan’s Cipriani Midtown will celebrate the entertainment industry’s most philanthropic women.
Power of Women is now a biannual event in New York and Los Angeles, with 400 guests comprised of entertainment and media insiders who will pay tribute to  the philanthropic efforts of these women. 
This year, the Entertainment Industry Foundation will match Variety’s donation to all the honorees’ charities at both events.

Kim Kardashian Covers ‘Variety’s Power of Women Issue 

“Variety’s Power of Women initiative has become a shining example of what is possible when committed women with a voice stand up for worthy causes and harness their power to give back and inspire others to do the same,” says Michelle Sobrino, publisher, Variety. “Launching the event in New York last year was immensely gratifying for both Variety and our partner Lifetime, and we are honored to share this day with our incredible new charity partner, the Entertainment Industry Foundation. Together we will further magnify the beautiful spirit the Power of Women series exemplifies.”
Kim Kardashian West has been profiled in Variety’s ‘Power of Women’ issue for her work with Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. Kim Kardashian West started to work with the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles seven years ago, after a friend’s child got sick. She not only donates proceeds from her eBay auction store to the nonprofit, but she also carves out time to regularly visit patients and their parents, especially during the holidays.
“My father passed away from cancer,” says Kardashian West, who lost her dad, Robert, in 2003. “I remember what it was like when my dad was going through it. You see the kids that are so strong. They feel so helpless. You want to do anything to help them.” DeAnn Marshall, a senior vice president, says that Kardashian West’s visits are meaningful to the children and staff. “Her involvement has always been laser-focused,” Marshall says. “Her positive spirit and genuine concern for their situations has lifted up many families during unimaginable times.”
On some of these visits, Kardashian West will sit at the patient’s bedside alone. Other times, she’ll bring along her husband, Kanye West, or her sisters. She’ll arrive at the hospital armed with presents such as iTunes gift cards or beauty products. “We’ll sit and paint our nails together,” Kardashian West says.
Close will be recognized for her work with Bring Change2Mind, which is dedicated to ending the stigma and discrimination surrounding mental illness. Dunham is being honored for her work with Girls Educational & Mentoring Services. The mission of GEMS  is to empower girls and young women who have experienced commercial sexual exploitation and domestic trafficking to exit the commercial sex industry and develop to their full potential.
Goldberg supports Figure Skating in Harlem, which combines education and figure skating to transform the lives of underserved girls. Weisz will be recognized for her work with the Opportunity Network, which gives underserved high school and college students access to career opportunities, networks and competitive colleges. Kardashian West supports Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, a non-profit that engages in ground-breaking pediatric medical research.

Variety’s 2015 Power of Women: New York event is presented by Lifetime and sponsored by Mattel, Frédérique Constant and Gevalia premium coffee.

'Passengers' Cast Chris Pratt & Jennifer Lawrence Team Up for New Movie

Georgia’s film industry is growing one movie at a time. The next major motion picture to film in the Atlanta area is Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt’s new movie ‘Passengers’. Tom Rothman gave the thumbs-up to  Passengers  with a budget of about $120m after tax incentives. Sony Pictures has just given the nod for the production of 'Passengers,' an interstellar romance starring two big names of Hollywood - Christ Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence.
