BET AWARDS 2016: Who’s Performing, Who’s Nominated & Who Wants To Win
It’s that time of year again. The biggest night in Black music is upon us and we’re anticipating a grand ole’
ratchet time. Hosted by Black-ish stars Anthony Anderson and Tracee Ellis Ross, the 2015 BET Awards will hit the Staples Center Sunday, June 28, at 8P/7C bringing with it a fierce red carpet, star-studded list of performers and presenters.
Here’s everything you need to know about the show.
Who’s Performing?
Celebs like Chris Brown, Kendrick Lamar, Nicki Minaj, Ne-Yo, Big Sean, Meek Mill, Future, Tamar Braxton, Omarion, Tyga, Jidenna, the cast of Empire and more will hit the stage at the 2015 BET Awards. But we’re even more excited to see Ciara, Jason Derulo and Tinashe tackle some of Janet’s greatest moves in an all-star tribute to Janet Jackson, who will receive BET’s inaugural Ultimate Icon: Music Dance Visual Award.
“This is Janet Jackson, people! We are excited beyond belief to present her with our inaugural ULTIMATE ICON: Music Dance Visual award and we are thrilled that she chose the BET Awards as the first step on her new road,” Stephen G. Hill, BET’s President of Programming said. “An inspiration to many other artists, ‘Ms. Jackson’ (’cause I’m nasty) blends music, dance and visuals in unique and groundbreaking ways and we look forward to celebrating her storied history… as well as giving the BET Awards audience a peek into her Unbreakable future.”
Touché.
Chris Brown, Nicki Minaj & Beyonce Lead The 2015 BET Nominations
BEST MALE R&B/POP ARTIST
Chris Brown will face off against August Alsina, John Legend, The Weeknd, Trey Songz and Usher in the "Best Male R&B/ Pop Artist" category.
BEST MALE HIP HOP ARTIST
This is tough. J. Cole, Kendrick Lamar and Drake had incredible albums this years. But only one can take home the award for "Best Male Hip Hop Artist." Big Sean, Common and Wale were also nominated.
BEST FEMALE R&B/POP ARTIST
Of course Beyonce is a shoo-in for "Best Female R&B/Pop Artist," but Ciara, Janelle Monae, Jhene Aiko, K. Michelle and Rihanna aren't going down without a fight!
BEST FEMALE HIP HOP ARTIST
While she has some competition this year, Nicki Minaj is the top contender for "Best Female Hip Hop Artist" in a category with Dej Loaf, Iggy Azalea, Tink Trina and Azealia Banks.
BEST GROUP
Rae Sremmurd's summer hit "No Type" earned them a nomination for "Best Group" against Rich Gang, Young Money, Migos, Jodeci and A$AP Mob
BEST COLLABORATION
After snagging an Academy Award for their collaboration "Glory," John Legend and Common will take on August Alsina and Nicki Minaj, Big Sean and E-40, Chris Brown/ Lil Wayne and Tyga, Chris Brown/Usher and Rick Ross and Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars for "Best Collaboration" at the BET Awards.
BEST NEW ARTIST
Bobby Shmurda kept us hitting our "Shmoney Dance" all summer with his infectious super hit "Hot N*ggas," which made him an obvious choice for "Best New Artist. He's in the running with Dej Loaf, Fetty Wap, Rae Sremmurd, Sam Smith and Tinashe.
