Hannibal' Wins At The Saturn Awards

Just four days after being canceled, Hannibal brings home a few Saturn Awards.
This week has brought some devastating news to the Fannibals of the world: Our beloved show has been canceled by and will not return to NBC after Season 3 ends.

Nonetheless, showrunner Bryan Fuller said in an interview with Vulture that the show is being shopped around, in hopes that someone else will pick it up for a fourth season.
The Saturn Award is an award presented annually by the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films to honor the top works mainly in science fiction, fantasy, and horror in film, television, and home video.  The award was initially, and is still sometimes, loosely referred to as a Golden Scroll.

Despite its cancellation, Hannibal is still being recognized for the amazing show
it is — just four days after NBC dropped it, the series won three Saturn Awards.

Hannibal was nominated this year for a total of seven awards: Best DVD
Television Release; Best Guest Performance in a Television Series (Michael Pitt); Best Supporting Actress in a Television Series (Caroline Dhavernas); Best Supporting Actor in a Television Series (Laurence Fishburne); Best Actor in a Television Series (Mads Mikkelsen); Best Actor in a Television Series (Hugh Dancy); and Best Network Television Series.

Fishburne beat out David Bradley (The Strain), Sam Heughan (Outlander), Erik Knudsen (Continuum), Norman Reedus (The Walking Dead), and Richard Sammel (The Strain) for Best Supporting Actor. Aaron Abrams (who plays Brian Zeller on Hannibal) accepted the award on behalf of Fishburne.

Meanwhile, Dancy shared his win with Andrew Lincoln (The Walking Dead) in a tie for Best Actor in a Television Series. They won against Grant Gustin (The Flash), Tobias Menzies (Outlander), Noah Wylie (Falling Skies), and Mikkelsen. Dancy accepted his award, remotely, from Germany.

The best news of the evening, however, was that Hannibal won Best Network Television Series. Fuller gave an acceptance speech, of which De Laurentiis Co. will post videos later. One thing we know about his speech: According to tweets from some of the Hannibal writers, Fuller took the opportunity to point out the irony of Hannibal winning the award just days after being canceled.
Last night’s wins bring Hannibal‘s Saturn Award tally up to five total. In 2014, the series was nominated for four awards (Best Network Television Series; Best Actor for both Mikkelsen and Dancy; and Best Guest Star for Gina Torres), and took home two statues. (Mikkelsen won for Best Actor and Hannibal tied with Revolution for Best Network Television Series.)
Hopefully the wins will aid in the #SaveHannibal campaign. During the awards ceremony last night, De Laurentiis Co., Loretta Ramos, many of the other writers fromHannibal, and Fannibals managed to get #HannibalOnSaturn trending on Twitter — efforts like that, combined with recognition from organizations like the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Films can only help in finding Hannibal a new home.
