Movie 'Passengers': New Trailer and Clips Are Full of Suspense- December 21

The Jennifer Lawrence/Chris Pratt blockbuster also hints at a deeper conspiracy of sorts with the new trailer.

Sony is ramping up the promotion for their forthcoming big budget sci-fi flick 'Passengers' now that we’re just under a month from release.
The first trailer for the Jennifer Lawrence/Chris Pratt vehicle was released back in September, and it did a nice job of laying out the base premise of the film, as well as giving us a feel for it. The new second trailer teases an underlying conspiracy surrounding the plot of the movie.
See for yourself.
This apparent conspiracy got a nod and a wink in the last trailer, but this one brings that idea to the forefront, maybe to the point of giving away too much.
First, the trailer literally displays the message of “nothing happens by accident.” More importantly is the dialogue we hear as Andy Garcia and Laurence Fishburne are revealed. You hear Pratt say “this wasn’t an accident” and then Lawrence saying “there’s something they didn’t tell us.”
In despite its short length, this certainly appears to be an instance of a trailer giving away more than it should in regards to the plot elements, there were a few things that were pretty encouraging.
The cinematography is outstanding and the visuals are stunning. Michael Sheen as the robotic barkeep seems like he may turn out to be rather creepy. The way he delivers his line in the trailer is eerie, and it could be a fun twist if he turns into some kind of psychotic antagonist in the film. Plus, the visual queues to The Shining…
Aside from the trailer, two short clips have recently been released as well that give us a taste of scenes we’ve seen flashes of in trailers.
The first features Lawrence going for a swim in a spectacular, and frankly unnerving looking pool before the ship loses it’s artificial gravity and, well check it out right here.
The second clip that’s been released shows us more of the scene we see of the two of them holding on for dear life as they try to keep themselves from being sucked out into the vacuum of outer space.
Both clips are pretty intense and give us a clear sense of suspense and Lawrence and Pratt’s characters are going to have to deal with plenty of harrowing moments.
'Passengers' is directed by Morten Tyldum, and is set for release in U.S. theaters on December 21.
