Cardi B officially files counter suit against former manager

Back in April, Cardi B was sued for $10 million by her manager, Klenord “Shaft” Raphael, who claimed the rapper had frozen him out of her career. Cardi has now filed a counter-suit.

In Raphael’s original suit, the manager alleged that he had discovered Cardi B and that she defamed him by telling people he stole money from her. Cardi broke from Raphael’s KSR Group and moved to Solid Foundation in March

The counter-suit claims that Shaft put “barriers between [Cardi] and people close to her in an effort to maintain complete control over her” and dictated “who she should and should not see romantically.” It also alleges that “Shaft proved increasingly willing to take advantage of, deceive and exploit Ms. Almanzar and he had the ability to do so through complete control over all legal documents and virtually every dollar that Ms. Almanzar earned in the entertainment business.” It calls Shaft “deceitful and disloyal” and “self-serving and controlling.”

The counter-suit says, “Ms. Almanzar entrusted Shaft and his related entities with many aspects of her professional and business affairs and that trust was abused. Despite having a fiduciary duty as a manager to act in Ms. Almanzar’s best interest with undivided loyalty, Shaft himself and through his entities took advantage of Ms. Almanzar’s trust and naiveté and persuaded her to sign contracts and to enter deals in which Shaft attempted to take an unreasonable and unconscionable portion of Ms. Almanzar’s earnings in the entertainment industry for himself.”

In his original suit, Raphael claimed that he discovered Cardi and played an “integral role in developing her music career and public image.” He also alleged that Cardi defamed him by telling people that he stole money from her. Cardi moved from Raphael’s KSR Group to Solid Foundation (the artist management arm of Quality Control) in March.

Cardi's suing Shaft for more than $15 million.

'Passengers' Cast Chris Pratt & Jennifer Lawrence Team Up for New Movie

Georgia’s film industry is growing one movie at a time. The next major motion picture to film in the Atlanta area is Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt’s new movie ‘Passengers’. Tom Rothman gave the thumbs-up to  Passengers  with a budget of about $120m after tax incentives.
