Natalia Lafourcade, 'Hasta La Raíz': For The Record

Embodying Latin musical heritage is an important component for artists adding to that tradition, and Natalia Lafourcade's album Hasta La Raíz demonstrated the young singer/songwriter could draw on those roots to stand out with her own fresh, original spirit. After 2012's Mujer Divina album in tribute to Mexico's master of song Agustín Lara, the Mexico City native took several years to travel and reconnect to original sources of inspiration inside herself.
Drawing strength from her roots, Hasta La Raíz, meaning "to the root," was released in 2015 and won Best Latin Rock, Urban or Alternative Album at the 58th GRAMMY Awards.

The artistic success of Hasta La Raíz is interwoven with more of that heritage and her personal background, from her musical parents and upbringing, through her first self-titled album of pop tracks, showing potential, and the rock band she created for her second album Casa, Natalia Y La Forquetina. Her self-titled album was nominated for a Best Latin Pop Album Latin GRAMMY and Casa won Best Rock Album By A Duo Or Group With Vocal at the 7th Latin GRAMMY Awards.
Lafourcade's next Latin GRAMMY wins were Best Alternative Music Album and Best Long Form Music Video for her fifth album Mujer Divina at the 14th Latin GRAMMY Awards. Two years later Hasta La Raíz brought her many wins at the 16th Latin GRAMMY Awards, including Best Alternative Music Album and the Best Engineered Album recognition for the audio technicians behind its unique sound. The title track won Latin GRAMMY Awards for Record Of The Year, Song Of The Year and Best Alternative Song.
Since Hasta La Raíz, Lafourcade released volumes 1 and 2 of Musas in 2017 and 2018 respectively. The first was nominated for a Best Latin Pop Album GRAMMY and brought her wins for the Latin GRAMMY categories Best Folk Album and Best Long Form Music Video at the 18th Latin GRAMMY Awards.
A high point for recognition of Lafourcade herself was her appearance on the 90th Academy Awards Oscar broadcast, performing "Remember Me" from the film Coco with Miguel and Gael García Bernal, best known for starring in "Mozart In The Jungle." The song's composers shared in its win for Best Original Song.
With a career full of exploration already behind her, and a bright future ahead, Hasta La Raizstands out as one of Lafourcade's shining moments.
