The International Cinematographers Guild (ICG, IATSE Local 600) 56th Annual ICG Publicists Awards Luncheon will take place Friday, Feb. 22, 2019, at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. 

Image result for 2019 Publicists AwardsThe awards, which traditionally occurs the week leading up to the Academy Awards®, will be presented in the following categories: Motion Picture Showman of the Year, Television Showman of the Year, Lifetime Achievement, Maxwell Weinberg Publicist Award for a Television Campaign and for a Movie Campaign, Les Mason Award for Career Achievement in Publicity, and the Bob Yeager Award for Community Service. 

“The ICG Publicist Awards recognize outstanding efforts in motion picture and television publicity and promotion campaigns,” said ICG President Steven Poster, ASC. 

“They provide the spark of showmanship that drives audience excitement in all media on a global basis. 

We salute their artistry, vision and creativity.” 

Past honorees include Betty White, Denzel Washington, Andy Serkis, Dan Fogelman, Clint Eastwood, Jim Gianopolus, Alfred Hitchcock, Alan Horn, Michael Lynton, Amy Pascal, Barry Meyer, Lew Wasserman, Tom Rothman, Jack Warner, Jerry Bruckheimer, Fred Silverman, Grant Tinker, Norman Lear, David Kelley, Steven Bochco, Aaron Spelling and Bob Hope, among others. 

More than 800 industry leaders are expected to attend the awards luncheon. Awards chair this year is Tim Menke with Sheryl Main serving as co-chair. 

Nominations will be announced in January 2019. Final online balloting is being held Jan. 14 – Feb. 4, and winners will be announced at the lunch ceremony on Friday, February 22, 2019.

ICG Publicists Awards Nominations Unveiled

Nominees for the 56th ICG Publicists Awards were revealed this morning in categories rewarding the year’s best guild campaigns in the film and TV industry. Winners bestowed by the publicists' branch of IATSE’s International Cinematographers Guild (Local 600) will be announced February 22 at the annual luncheon at the Beverly Hilton.
The Maxwell Weinberg Awards noms, honoring publicists that worked on campaigns, included a wide-ranging list on the film side with the likes of Disney/Marvel’s superhero tentpole Black Panther, 20th Century Fox’s musical drama Bohemian Rhapsody, Warner Bros’ rom-com Crazy Rich Asians, horror offerings Halloween from Universal and A Quiet Place from Paramount, and Sony Pictures’ animated Spider-Man: Into the Spider-verse.

On the TV side, noms include TNT’s The Alienist, CBS’ The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, ABC’s Single Parents and FX’s Mayans M.C. and Pose.

“This diverse array of nominated campaigns is emblematic of what publicists do – designing and implementing their efforts targeted to a multitude of distinct audiences,” said Tim Menke, the ICG Publicist Awards chair. “This year’s nominees include a wide range of publicizing entertainment including a late-night talk show; Asian, LGBTQ and African American culturally significant stories; modern-day comedy; a 40-year-old sequel; cutting edge animation; a 19th-century mystery and a nearly silent film.”

Other categories include the Press Award, with nom's including Tom O’Neil from Deadline’s sister site Gold Derby, and for the annual Les Mason Award, the guild’s highest honor to its members.

The luncheon will also include the bestowing of honorary awards including Jamie Lee Curtis with guild’s Lifetime Achievement Award, and Crazy Rich Asians director Jon M. Chu with the Motion Picture Showman of the Year Award. The Television Showman of the Year Award has not been announced.

In 2002 the Publicists Guild merged with the International Cinematographers Guild (Local 600). The first Publicists Awards Luncheon was held in 1964 and has since grown to an event attended annually by up to 800 Publicists and Motion Picture and Television industry leaders. Many of the greatest actors, directors and executives have been honored with Motion Picture and Television Showmanship Awards and Lifetime Achievement Awards including Steven Spielberg, James Cameron, Tom Hanks, Jeffrey Katzenberg, Jerry Bruckheimer, Kevin Feige, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Clint Eastwood, Shonda Rhimes, Julie Andrews, Harrison Ford, Sylvester Stallone, Carol Burnett, Kirk Douglas, Garry Marshall, Stanley Kramer, Paul Newman, Joanne Woodward, Bob Hope and Jerry Lewis. In addition, the members honor their own through the Maxwell Weinberg Publicist Showmanship Awards for publicity campaigns, the Bob Yeager Award for Community Service and the Les Mason Award, the greatest honor to be paid to a publicist. The first cinematographers’ union was established in New York in 1926, followed by unions in Los Angeles and Chicago, but it wasn’t until 1996 that Local 600 was born as a national guild. ICG’s ongoing activities include the Emerging Cinematographer Awards and the Publicists Awards Luncheon. The Guild also publishes the award-winning ICG Magazine

'Passengers' Cast Chris Pratt & Jennifer Lawrence Team Up for New Movie

Georgia’s film industry is growing one movie at a time. The next major motion picture to film in the Atlanta area is Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt’s new movie ‘Passengers’. Tom Rothman gave the thumbs-up to  Passengers  with a budget of about $120m after tax incentives. Sony Pictures has just given the nod for the production of 'Passengers,' an interstellar romance starring two big names of Hollywood - Christ Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence. People reported that both the stars are expected to get two paychecks for the upcoming film It's set on a spaceship, the cast is the same size as Gravity's, and the budget is huge.  But what else do we know about 2016's biggest sci-fi film?
